5 Minute Wins for Business Owners – Tasks You Can Get Done in a Flash

What could you get done in 5 minutes?

Recently I read a great article from Flying Solo on 5 minute business building.

It outlined a list of tasks you could get done in 5 minutes and why getting these little items out of the way were really big wins.

The article sat well with our philosophy at In Just 5 to make small business life simple.

As a small business owner and mother, I struggle sometimes with the amount of tasks that have to be done each day.

Some tasks take much longer than others and progress can be hard to see.

Finding little 5 minute wins – tasks that can be done in just 5 minutes – can really brighten your day and give you a chance to tick something of your list, even on the toughest days.

Some of these tasks are perfect for when you stuck waiting in the doctor’s surgery, or at kids’ swimming lessons.

They’re a great use of time and can really contribute to building your business – as they say ‘from little things big things grow’.

So here is our list of 5 minute wins, featuring some from the Flying Solo article, and some of our own.

5 minute wins list

  • Make a to-do-list for a major task or project that needs attention.
  • Check your social media feeds for any recent likes or comments and acknowledge them (stick to just this though and nothing else or you’ll fall down the ‘where has the time gone?’ social media rabbit hole).
  • Write thank you notes or cards.
  • Check in on your goals and vision – are you on track?
  • Go through your contacts and call someone in your business circle or network, just to connect and say Hi.
  • Create and schedule a social media quote image on Canva.
  • Brainstorm a list of potential blog topics.
  • Turn a regular email into a template.
  • Request a testimonial from a past client.
  • Unsubscribe from any emails you no longer wish to receive.
  • Return a call  or email.
  • Stand up and do some stretching.
  • Get a glass of water (and or coffee!)
  • Read a section of a book or an article on something that interests you.
  • Tidy up your desk area.
  • Listen to a motivation song.
  • Delegate an item that you have been holding up.
  • Pay a bill
  • Brainstorm, brain-dump, mindmap something that needs attention.
  • Ask a customer. ‘What’s the one thing we could do better?’
  • Book in a meeting or appointment.
  • Get up and walk – around the office, in the backyard…anywhere. Sometimes the best use of your time is to take a well earned rest.
  • Meditate for 5 minutes.

We aim to keep adding to this list, but what are your 5 minute wins? We’d love to hear from you.
